【摘要】:ThistestmethodcomparesclosuresforESCR.Suitablevariablesare:closurematerials,closuredesigns,processes,appliedtorque,andstress-crackagents.ResultscanbeusedforestimatingshelflifeofclosuresintermsofESCR.Thisrequiresthattheuserhascalibratedfailuretimeinthistesttofailuretimeinthefieldforactualpackagingsystems.1.1Thistestmethoddeterminesthesusceptibilityofthreadedplasticclosurestofailureduetoenvironmentalstresscracking(ESC).1.2Threadedplasticclosuresinusemaycontactagentsthatappreciablyreducethestressatwhichcracksform.Examplesofsuchagentsare:soaps,detergents,oils,andliquidbleaches.1.3Othermajorfactorsthatinfluenceenvironmentalstresscrackresistance(ESCR)ofthreadedplasticclosuresaretheclosurematerial(s),closuredesign,molded-instress,andappliedstress.1.4Thisprocedureappliesparticularlytoclosuresmadefromplasticsbasedonpolypropylene(PP)orpolystyrene(PS).Itmayalsoapplytootherpolymers.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecificprecautionarystatementsaregiveninSection8andNote2.
